Particles.
Yesterday I discovered particles of iron oxide in my super-pure, analytical grade, very expensive carbon dioxide stream.
I might also have discovered that silica gets dissolved in supercritcal carbon dioxide.
Verrrry interesting!
Science fascintating, but what is published is not nearly as interesting as is what happened behind the scenes ...
Here you can follow the travails of a doctoral student in analytical chemistry.
Yesterday I discovered particles of iron oxide in my super-pure, analytical grade, very expensive carbon dioxide stream.
Today I discovered that some polymers can dissolve in supercritical carbon dioxide. It's recorded in the literature. What drove this discovery is the discovery of a layer of trapped polymer inside my system, where no polymer should be. It causes plugging of the chromatographic flow path.
